Stepping Into The Darkness To See The Stars: The Raw Truth Of Personal Change
[ad_1]
A friend of mine once said to me “Paul, sometimes you have got to step into the darkness to see the stars.”
That was pretty profound in my opinion and it got me thinking…
People often get to a position where they need to make a change. Normally the change is focused on personal change, personal development or wanting to improve their financial situation in order to live the life that they aspire to. Whatever that may be.
The fact of the matter is: “If you want your life to be different, you have to start doing different things.” I think it was Einstein who once defined madness as something along the lines of “Doing the same thing and expecting a different result.”
This is all very simple to understand… and it makes sense.
The challenge is that the actions that we have taken to get to this level are now actions within our comfort zones. We have been doing the same thing time and time again and we know how it goes. People by nature shy away from things that are uncomfortable – things that are outside their comfort zones. (I can certainly attest to this from an early age! I would always do Friday night’s homework on Sunday night or maybe even Monday morning instead of Friday afternoon!)
Often we find that we will make short term changes in what we do but then we “snap back” into our old behaviour patterns in a few weeks. This is one of the reason why in my opinion the vast majority of one off seminars in any kind of change don’t have a lasting effect for 90% of people who attend them.
It’s only when we make those changes in our regular activity and they become habits, do we start seeing long lasting changes.
This is something I tell stock market students: “When you get to a level where you are doing something towards your trading, everyday and it becomes a part of your life – that’s when you will be successful.”
But any personal change that people want to make, be it from learning to trade the stock market to learning to negotiate property deals, learning internet marketing skills, taking on a new job role in a new field – it all comes down to doing something that is normally way outside our comfort zones and unless we have someone to hold us to account for the changes we are going to make, it can be very challenging.
The other side of this is that quite often, there is no guarantee of the success you will meet with. Ultimately your future success all comes down to how hard you work at something. I guess you could say that your taking a leap of faith. The flip side is that if you don’t take the action to make the changes, I guarantee you that they won’t just happen…
So if you want something bad enough, commit to it completely, know the reason WHY you have to make the changes and NEVER give up!! (Which I know is easier said than done…). The truth of the matter is, making any personal change is very simple to do but it’s never ever easy!
